Why is cleaning grout and tile a challenge? Grout is porous, so it easily traps dirt, stains, and moisture, while tile, though smooth on the surface, accumulate grime over time. In the olden days when a person had to SCRUB (ugh) with noxious chemicals (double ugh), it was easy to leave cleaning grout and tile to the bone pile. But, you’ve probably noticed neglecting your tile and grout has led to some funky coloring, mold growth–eek!–and a luck luster appearance.

Now you don’t have to be intimidated by grout and tile! Ready for a tiling good time? A grouty good time? (Spotless is rolling his eyes at me.) Ok. Here we go.

Step-by-Step Cleaning Process

1. Vroom, vroom!

You may not be dusty (or crusty), but maybe your grout and tiles are. Start by removing loose dirt and broken grout from the tile surface using a broom or vacuum cleaner. This prevents particles from scratching your beautiful tiles during cleaning.

2. Mixing Your Pro-Tek™ Cleaning Solution

Non-toxic, eco-friendly, hard-working Pro-Tek™ is super concentrated. You can dilute it to clean nearly everything in your home or office! Wow! This is how a whole gallon can last you six months to a year.

For tile and grout, mix a 10:1 solution of Pro-Tek™ cherry, lemon or eco-orange by pouring 1.75 ounces in your Pro-Tek™ spray bottle. It’s FREE with your gallon purchase! 3. Saturate Grout Lines

4. Enjoy 15 Minutes of Fun!

5. Scrub (if you need to) and Rinse

You’re back! What fun thing did you do?

Take a look at your grout and tile! Woo wee, what a difference. Scrub a bit if you need to, especially if this is your first grout and tile cleaning in a while.

Now rinse. Dry thoroughly with a microfiber cloth to prevent water spots and mold. Pawsitivitely lovely!

6. Optional: Sealing the Grout

Once your tile is clean and dry, apply an eco-friendly grout sealer to protect against staining, moisture trapping, and mold. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and allow the sealer to dry completely before using the area again.

Maintaining the Spotless Shine: Tips from Clara

Wipe up spills right away on kitchen and floor tiles to prevent staining.
Use an eco-friendly squeegee on shower tiles after every use to protect against water stains and mold.
Sweep or vacuum at least once a week to prevent dirt from scratching tile.
Use eco-friendly doormats on high-traffic floor tiles to keep dirt from getting ground in.
Deep clean at least once a month in high-traffic areas.
